Rick Weldon
Vice President, Managed Security Services
Mr. Weldon brings 13 years experience in networking and information systems
security to the Internet Security Advisors Group (ISAG). Most recently,
Mr. Weldon was the senior manager for UUNET's Global Security Product
Engineering Group. As senior manager, Mr. Weldon was responsible for the
design and implementation of UUNET's managed service product lines, to
include strategic planning and technical direction for UUNET regional
divisions in Europe, Middle East-Africa, and Asia-Pacific. He created the
first managed virtual private networking (VPN) solution in the industry,
named 1998 "product of the year" by DataComm Magazine. Since then, he and
his team of 30 engineers have designed and deployed 4 fully-managed product
lines to Fortune 100 companies. The associated revenue stream has grown
from zero to 50 million dollars annually. Mr. Weldon has the experience
to select the right technology for a client, design the product surround, and
deploy it with end-to-end managed services in large-scale global
environments. Mr. Weldon is recognized in the industry as an Internet
security expert. He has authored and contributed to articles for DataComm
and other industry magazines and has appeared on a nationally televised
program on computer forensics.
Prior to UUNET, he consulted as an Internet security expert, providing
intensive on-site support to government and corporate clients. One of his
assignments involved a government contractor providing on-site network
security administration for the US Air Force in the Pentagon. Mr Weldon
logged thousands of hours on military systems, conducting research into
security techniques and getting to know members of the "hacker" community.
His work was quickly recognized by military law enforcement, which
requested his advice and assistance in investigations to detect, trace, and
gather evidence on intruders on military systems world-wide. He has
lectured on techniques to compromise systems at the Annual Computer Crimes
Investigators Conference, sponsored by the Air Force Office of Special
Investigations. His work has been used by the Air Force Information
Warfare Center and the Defense Information Systems Agency to develop and
teach intrusion countermeasures. Mr. Weldon has held the highest US
security clearances and has worked in the military intelligence community.
